VISITOR CENTRES
The visitor centres are spread out across the municipalities covered by the Park and constitute the point of contact with the natural,
historical and cultural aspects which characterise the protected area. Conceived as the start of a journey within the protected area,
each Centre deals with its various key aspects, albeit differentiated by the distinctive features of each individual municipality.

Economic activity in the Canal del Ferro Valley, especially in the Municipality of Resiutta, has long been influenced by the presence of a mine for the extraction of oil shale in the high valley of the Resartico River. These mining activities left many traces, which have now been collected by the Park authorities and which constitute a valuable source of information on the history and gruelling working conditions of mining.
The numerous displays, with accompanying photographs, illustrate the activities which were carried out in the mine, the history of the explorations, and the geological aspects other than those natural features of the area. There is also an striking full-scale reconstruction of a tunnel complete with a trolley. And there are many rock samples, especially the oil shale that was extracted, as well as the equipment used by the miners.
The exhibition is completed by a model of the valley showing the course of the ledges and tunnels and a computer presentation of the documents collected during the research carried out.

The Canin Massif area is one of the most sought-after international destinations for speleologists and researchers in the field due to its specificities linked to the karst phenomena and its caves (more than 1,000).
The exhibition, mounted next door to the tourist information office in Sella Nevea, houses stone and concretionary samples as well as materials and equipment used in speleological activities, providing students with a realistic picture of the area’s geological varieties. It also contains a large-scale model reproducing a significant section of the Canin area and its subterranean world.
