Back to the map
The trail opens at the base of the south-eastern wall of the mountain of the same name, near the Gilberti Refuge, and is approximately 800 m long in total and rises at a gradient of 60 m. It takes around 30-45 minutes to complete the route, which is classed as an “easy” hike.
There are seven natural habitats indicated, for which the main emergences of flora and vegetation are illustrated: snow-covered valley, rock vegetation, subalpine grassland, Dryas stadial pioneer vegetation, consolidated scree, subalpine dwarf juniper heath and scree slopes.
There are fifty species which are specifically indicated. Worth a mention is the white poppy from the Julian Alps which only grows in this environment.
The botanical trail is open to visitors during the months of July and August, when the Mount Canin cableway is working.
