The Gilberti Refuge is located on the northern plateau of the Canin, at an altitude of 1,850 m, in the middle of Vallon di Prevala, between Sella Gilberti and Sella Bila Pec.
A typical 3-floor stone building, it was opened in 1934 and then renovated after the Second World War.
The refuge is reachable from Sella Nevea using the Mount Canin cableway or by foot in two hours via the trail which climbs the ski piste. Several trails depart from here for Mount Canin (trail no. 632), Sella Bila Pec (trail no. 632) and the Marussich bivouac (trail no. 632).
Furthermore, 10 minutes from the refuge there is the “Bila Pec” practice wall, with fifty or so climbing routes varying in difficulty between level 4 and 7. There are also remarkable high-altitude Karst phenomena, with sinkholes, underground hollows and caves, which provoke a great deal of speleological activity, as well as the Bila Pec botanical trail.
The refuge is open in spring and winter when, thanks to the cableway, downhill, cross-country and off-track skiing are possible.
