Back to the map
This small village, situated on a wide expanse of meadow land on the lower northern slope of Mount Plauris, saw its last inhabitant move downhill in 1955. It is reachable in about 30 minutes along the trail which departs from a footbridge across the Rio Serai, in the village of Povici di Sotto, and through a vast pine forest.
Borgo Cros is a magnificent natural vantage point from which, at various points along the trail, there are panoramic views of Resia Valley and the southern slopes of the Canin and, beyond the peak of the Sart, glimpses can be caught of Jof di Montasio and Cimone, whilst to the north appear the rock faces of Mount Pisimone and to the south the northern face of Mount Plauris in the Rio Resartico valley.
There are two ways to reach this wonderful village, both easy routes for everyone. The first departs from Resiutta, near the old railway station, and the second leaves from the village of Povici. For those seeking an alternative, there is another trail (CAI trail no. 743) which leads to Mount Sflincis up to the Stivane lodges and then to Mount Pacoi, or the adventurous can try a truly wild canyon: the magnificent Rio Serai valley.
