Back to the map
Foran dal Muss is a plateau located on the northern side of the Canin mountain range, between Sart and Bila Pec.
It is a very interesting place from a geological point of view, as all the Karst phenomena can be observed here, both above and below ground, given that this lunar landscape is devoid of all vegetation. The absence of vegetation can be explained by the relatively recent ice cap covering the area in recent years.
The plateau represents a unique environment, of great importance for the study of phenomena, where tectonic evidence can be easily found due to the absence of torrential erosion. The entire area, therefore, is particularly visited by geologists and speleologists, whose explorations and stay are facilitated by the Procopio bivouac shelter, set up in 1988.
Foran dal Muss is reached from Resia Valley, departing from Coritis (CAI trail no. 657–634) or from Stolvizza (CAI trail no. 634) passing through Sella Grubia; from Val Raccolana, departing from the villages of Tamaroz (CAI trail no. 646) or Piani (CAI trail no. 645); or alternatively from Sella Nevea, using the Funivia del Canin cableway to the Gilberti Refuge and continuing towards Sella Bila Pec and the Marussich bivouac shelter (CAI trail no. 632).
