The ECOMUSEO DELLA VAL RESIA (RESIA VALLEY ECOMUSEUM) represents a new model of management and development of the region, aimed at an active and integrated preservation of the local natural, historical and cultural heritage as well as a socio-economic revival of the community involved. The Ecomuseum encompasses the entire valley, which will become a vast museum to be visited through a series of themed routes, in which the habitats and individual phenomena (physical, biological and cultural) encountered are posts or look-out points which form part of a more general itinerary. And that is not all: these days a region’s image is defined by more than just its geography, landscape and environment; these include other assets, both material and immaterial, such as houses and lodges, customs and working methods and enogastronomic produce. The Ecomuseum, therefore, is the key to interpreting the region and a means of promoting the extraordinary rich heritage of Resia Valley.

The RESIA VALLEY ECOMUSEUM is a series of physical and cultural itineraries to be undertaken with both body and mind, to “explore” Resia Valley, to visit its most characteristic areas and gain an understanding of their essence as well as of the natural and human history of this wonderful alpine valley and the people who have lived or still live here.

The Resia Valley Ecomuseum is structured around four routes, known as “Vie” (roads) which lead to particularly significant spots, called “Piazze” (squares):

  • VIA AGLI ANTICHI GHIACCIAI
(Road to the Ancient Glaciers), which passes through GNIVA and leads to SELLA CARNIZZA

  • VIA AGLI ALPEGGI
(Road to the Pastures), which passes through OSEACCO and leads to PROVALO

  • VIA AGLI STAVOLI
(Road to the Lodges), which passes through SAN GIORGIO and leads to the STAVOLI RUSCHIS (Ruschis Lodges)

  • VIA ALLA MUSICA
(Road to the Music), which passes through STOLVIZZA and leads to CORITIS

The departure point for all four roads is Prato di Resia, on the road defined as “Origine” (origin), located near the Park’s head office and Visitor Centre.

Along each road, easily identifiable signposts guide the hiker on his walk into the valley, whilst the display boards invite every visitor to fully embrace the nature and history of this valley.

Ultimately, the Ecomuseum is considered an authentic and original museum to visit, one which spans the valley – so is also and importantly outdoors – and therefore is essentially structured as a series of “cultural routes”.
